Most problems with Adobe apps are fixed by deleting the "font list" cache. You can either download a small app called FontNuke (google it). Or do a search on your computer for any files that begin with adobefnt. Then delete the one ending in extension .lst. These lists are rebuilt by the Adobe apps.

Adobe apps also have a "fonts" folder within the application's folder. Some fonts are also stored here.

What does Optical and Metrics kerning mean in Adobe apps?

Some applications – like InDesign – allow you to choose between 'optical' kerning and 'metrics' kerning.
Using the 'Optical' function, the application works out what it thinks the kerning of the font should be.
Using the 'Metrics' function, the application takes the kerning information directly from the font file. Only in this way will you use the kerning defined by the type designer. We spend a huge amount of time kerning our fonts, so we advise you to follow the kerning we have defined.
