Why are some font weights displaying incorrectly in Microsoft 2016?

There are some irregular font weight display issues with MS Office 2016 and specifically with the OpenType (.otf) font format. When selecting certain weights such as Thin, Light, Medium, SemiBold or Heavy, the font weights will not be displayed correctly, often defaulting to either the Regular or Bold weight.

This is a known issue with early versions of MS Office 2016 which also affects some system fonts. Fortunately, Microsoft have now fixed this issue. To resolve the issue simply run an MS Office Update to ensure that you have the latest version installed on your computer. You can run an update for MS Office by simply opening Word, click on the Help menu and then select 'Check for Updates'. Installing the latest version of MS Office 2016 will resolve your font weight display issues.
